Long-term takeaways:

  • Test first, test during, test after, test, test, test
  • When designing algorithms, demand the weakest capabilities (e.g. iterable vs. indexable)
  • When designing containers, provide the strongest capabilities (e.g. indexable vs iterable)
  • Build decorators on top of containers, iterators, and functions
  • Utilize the benefits of being lazy (i.e. yield)
  • Always look for reuse and symmetry in your code
  • Collaboration is essential to the quality of your code and to your well-being in producing it

How well do you think the course conveyed those takeaways?

I thought the course conveyed those takeaways very well.

Were there any other particular takaways…

What did you do this past week?

Not much happened this past week. My group and I started working on Phase III, but other than that, nothing significant happened.

What’s in your way?

Phase III. Because we worked on Phase I at the last moment, we said we would work earlier on Phase II. Even with Phase II, despite starting slightly earlier, the last few days were a struggle because we had more issues than we had anticipated. …

What did you do this past week?

I finished working on Phase II with my group. Despite starting early, we had not completed as much work as we thought we had done, so the last few days were kind of tough. Other than that, I did homework for other classes. The only significant I did in the past week was Phase II.

What’s in your way?

I have a project for Artificial Intelligence, but other than working on Phase III, there is not much else that is in my way. …

What did you do this past week?

I had three exams and a project, so my week has been pretty busy. Other than that, I have been working on IDB2 with the rest of my team. We started working on IDB2 early, so we have been able to get a lot done this past week.

What’s in your way?

There are still some backend issues that we are dealing with, but I think that they will be resolved soon. Other than IDB2, there is nothing else in my way. …

What did you do this past week?

I completed a project for my Artificial Intelligence class and worked some more on Phase 2.

What’s in your way?

Exams. I have three exams on three consecutive days. Other than that, I would say setting up our Flask backend and Docker environments are in our way. However, because we started working early, we will most likely have plenty of time to resolve our issues. We are all learning new things, but we are learning as a group, so we will be able to help each other out.

What did you do this past week?

I spent the majority of my time working on Phase 1.

What’s in your way?

I have a project for Artificial Intelligence that’s due in two days, but other than that, there’s not really much else that’s in my way.

What will you do next week?

I will work on my project for Artificial Intelligence, then I will begin working on Phase 2. My group has decided to work early on this phase, so I expect my week after Tuesday to be mainly focused on Phase 2.

What did you do this past week?

I finished a project I had for my Artificial Intelligence class, and my group and I planned what we are going to do for our website. I also completed a module for my history class (HIS 315K).

What’s in your way?

The main thing that is in my way is figuring out what everybody is going to do for the website. We just recently figured out what our website is going to be about, but now the challenge is determining how the work should be split up among everybody.

What did you do this past week?

I completed some modules for my history class and started working on a project for Artificial Intelligence. This week was not that busy for me, so I was able to get lots of sleep since I did not have many things to work on.

What’s in your way?

The main thing in my way will be my project for Artificial Intelligence. However, I do not believe it will take too much time. I do not think IDB1 will be too much of a problem because I have a solid group. However, we will…

What did you do this past week?

I mostly finished Collatz, and I attended my classes as usual. Nothing particularly noteworthy happened in the last week. It is still too early in the semester.

What’s in your way?

Not much, really. The thing that’s most in my way is my AI project, but I do not think that should take too long. None of my other classes have assigned a lot of homework yet, so I have plenty of time to complete whatever assignments I have. …

What did you do this past week?

I started working on Collatz. I also had my first AI class (which only meets once a week), and I’m slowly getting back into the hang of academic life.

What’s in your way?

Optimizing my Collatz code. I’ve only written the naive implementation, but I don’t think optimization should take too long. I’d also say that learning Python is another obstacle. I remember a little bit from back when I was in FRI, but it wouldn’t hurt to try to learn more of the language outside of the assignments in class.
